Luminous Coffee Roasters Colombia Vergel Estates Caturra Koji Natural

Roasted on 08/21/22 I brewed this in a Kalita wave using notneutral filters with a Niche Zero grinder. My recipe is 28g coffee, 400g hot water not necessarily aiming for any particular time, but somewhere between four and five and half minutes. I try to do a 50g bloom in the first 45 seconds then three or four more pours. 45. Floral, cloves, pear and black cherries. I loved it. The cloves were a little overpowering for me.

Roasted on 08/17/22 I brewed this in a Kalita wave using notneutral filters with a Niche Zero grinder. My recipe is 28g coffee, 400g hot water not necessarily aiming for any particular time, but somewhere between four and five and half minutes. I try to do a 50g bloom in the first 45 seconds then three or four more pours. 47. Red apple, stone fruit and bergamot aroma. I loved it, it was very sweet and very smooth, probably one of the best Ethiopians I had in the last year or so, maybe I have been selfselecting floral Ethiopians, but I was pleasantly surprised.

Roasted on 07/23/22 I brewed this in a Kalita wave using notneutral filters with a Niche Zero grinder. My recipe is 28g coffee, 400g hot water not necessarily aiming for any particular time, but somewhere between four and five and half minutes. I try to do a 50g bloom in the first 45 seconds then three or four more pours. 45. Lots of complexity in this one. Wine like, cherry, spiced apple cider, and orange rind. May or may not be good as an espresso.

My Friend's Coffee Roasters Colombia El Bombo Claudio Munoz Caturra

Roasted on 07/23/22 I brewed this in a Kalita wave using notneutral filters with a Niche Zero grinder. My recipe is 28g coffee, 400g hot water not necessarily aiming for any particular time, but somewhere between four and five and half minutes. I try to do a 50g bloom in the first 45 seconds then three or four more pours. 45. I loved this, it was a little fast and I think I could have gone finer. Green Pear in honey, vanilla marshmallow and lychee.

My Friend's Coffee Roasters Colombia El Verged Wild Caturron

Roasted on 07/23/22 I brewed this in a Kalita wave using notneutral filters with a Niche Zero grinder. My recipe is 28g coffee, 400g hot water not necessarily aiming for any particular time, but somewhere between four and five and half minutes. I try to do a 50g bloom in the first 45 seconds then three or four more pours. 43. Strawberry throughout, blackberry and something like plum, but not quite. I rather liked it.  This is a wild anaerobic, I am not sure what that means, if it is some naturally occurring anaerobic or something else.

Moksha Coffee Roasters Colombia Washed Sierra Nevada

Roasted on 06/22/22 I brewed this in a Kalita wave using notneutral filters with a Niche Zero grinder. My recipe is 28g coffee, 400g hot water not necessarily aiming for any particular time, but somewhere between four and five and half minutes. I try to do a 50g bloom in the first 45 seconds then three or four more pours. 45. I struggled with this one, I feel it is definitely better as an espresso, but it has potential as a daily drinker or maybe as a drip. There is a lot of chocolate, some burnt sugar, a little orange and just enough acidity that an acidity hater wouldn't find it offensive, but there was something evasive about it. I feel that I couldn't quite dial it in fully.

Luminous Coffee Roasters Columbia Jairo Arcila Santa Monica Bourbon Chiroso Washed Lactic

47. Like a chocolate orange, in a good way. Generally I don't find chocolate and citrus interesting in coffee, but this had enough complexity to keep me engaged. Toffee throughout, with bright orange, with an incredibly silky mouth feel and some tropical notes at the end.  dry anaerobic fermentation of 48 hours

Luminous Coffee Roasters Colombia Gala Ester Suarez Melo Nuevo Amanecer

Roasted on 06/22/22 I brewed this in a Kalita wave using notneutral filters with a Niche Zero grinder. My recipe is 28g coffee, 400g hot water not necessarily aiming for any particular time, but somewhere between four and five and half minutes. I try to do a 50g bloom in the first 45 seconds then three or four more pours. 44. Sweet riesling, cacao nibs, melon and well-rounded. I feel that I should like this more so than I do, but I have a feeling this would have made a nice, perhaps slightly unbalanced, espresso.  Natural assisted prefermentation. I am not sure if this means it was fermented before drying which to me would make sense.

Tinker Coffee Co. Ethiopia Dur Feres Natural

Roasted on 06/06/22 I brewed this in a Kalita wave using notneutral filters with a Niche Zero grinder. My recipe is 28g coffee, 400g hot water not necessarily aiming for any particular time, but somewhere between four and five and half minutes. I try to do a 50g bloom in the first 45 seconds then three or four more pours. 40. Strawberry very briefly at the front, followed by flat chocolate and complex brandy. I really loved this at the first sip, but not so much afterwards. I think this would be a good espresso though.

Tinker Coffee Co. Ethiopia Belayneh Bariso Lot 44

44. Rose, peach and watermelon. Another surprising coffee despite such delicate flavors it isn't as tea like as I would expect it to be. It certainly is on the lighter side of medium, but it is really enjoyable black.

Tinker Coffee Co. Ethiopia TebeArowacho

40. Interesting. Very mild. Watermelon at the front, sweet lemon, and very light honey. I feel like it is both realitively light and on the medium side, but at the same time neither.

Luminous Coffee Roasters Lumi Mixes Mason's Pick May 2022

Roasted on 05/22/22 I brewed this in a Kalita wave using notneutral filters with a Niche Zero grinder. My recipe is 28g coffee, 400g hot water not necessarily aiming for any particular time, but somewhere between four and five and half minutes. I try to do a 50g bloom in the first 45 seconds then three or four more pours. 40. Black tea, lemon peel with pith and a little melon at the end. Nowhere close to as delicate as I thought it would be. Like most coffees with tea tasting notes it a little astringent. It does surprisingly well with a little milk and darker than I thought it would be. Probably my least favorite of the May 2022 mixes. I am surprised at how much I liked the Moka Java compared to the other three.  I think the four Lumi Mixes made me appreciate how much I enjoy their single origins, even the ones I wish they roasted lighter.  30% Colombia Koji Natural 30% Ethiopia Sidama Honey 40% Hounduras Honey Melon, cherry, lemon tea like.

Luminous Coffee Roasters Lumi Mixes Lexus's Pick May 2022

Roasted on 05/22/22 I brewed this in a Kalita wave using notneutral filters with a Niche Zero grinder. My recipe is 28g coffee, 400g hot water not necessarily aiming for any particular time, but somewhere between four and five and half minutes. I try to do a 50g bloom in the first 45 seconds then three or four more pours. 42. Another coffee that I prefer with a small amount of milk and might be really good as an espresso. I am surprised at how muted this was black, but when I added about an ounce of milk suddenly everything became clear. Lots of strawberry, orange soda, sweet red grape and ever so slightly floral.  40% Costa Rica Natural 60% Hounduras Honey Strawberry, Orange, Grape & Floral

Luminous Coffee Roasters Lumi Mixes That Good Good

Roasted on 05/22/22 I brewed this in a Kalita wave using notneutral filters with a Niche Zero grinder. My recipe is 28g coffee, 400g hot water not necessarily aiming for any particular time, but somewhere between four and five and half minutes. I try to do a 50g bloom in the first 45 seconds then three or four more pours. 40.  Another interesting coffee, I honestly was expecting these Lumi Mixes to be on the lighter side, but this is closer to what I expect of a medium roast. Lots of chocolate, something similar to roasted barley, blueberry, bright lemon and tropical notes. According to the tasting notes dragon fruit, but I am not sure if it is quite that and I don't have enough to do more than two tries, maybe if I went a little coarser and sped it up I could get more tropical notes.  50% Colombia Natural Ice Fermentation 30% Kenya Washed 20% Hounduras Washed

Luminous Coffee Roasters Lumi Mixes The Moka Java May 2022

Roasted on 05/22/22 I brewed this in a Kalita wave using notneutral filters with a Niche Zero grinder. My recipe is 28g coffee, 400g hot water not necessarily aiming for any particular time, but somewhere between four and five and half minutes. I try to do a 50g bloom in the first 45 seconds then three or four more pours. 40. This is something of a strange one. As a Moka Java I don't enjoy it, drinking it black I found it a little lacking getting mostly chocolate notes and the barest hint that there are some fruit notes. However adding a little milk, it improved significantly. Lots of red wine, blackberry, milk chocolate and something like orange, but not quite.  Again I think I prefer a normal moka java, that has only chocolate and berry notes (like Counter Cultures), but this is super interesting and I was not prepared for it. When I think of moka javas I think of African South American blends, maybe the absence of an African and presence of a Yemen is throwing me for a loop....

Luminous Coffee Roasters Colombia Vergel Estates Cattura Natural Koji

Roasted on 05/01/22 I brewed this in a Kalita wave using notneutral filters with a Niche Zero grinder. My recipe is 28g coffee, 400g hot water not necessarily aiming for any particular time, but somewhere between four and five and half minutes. I try to do a 50g bloom in the first 45 seconds then three or four more pours 43. I don't know if I like this or the other Koji more. Floral cloves pear and black cherry. The clove notes are a little stronger in this one then the other.  Cattura natural koji

Luminous Coffee Roasters Colombia Vergel Estates Red Bourbon Natural Koji

Roasted on 05/01/22 I brewed this in a Kalita wave using notneutral filters with a Niche Zero grinder. My recipe is 28g coffee, 400g hot water not necessarily aiming for any particular time, but somewhere between four and five and half minutes. I try to do a 50g bloom in the first 45 seconds then three or four more pours 37. I loved this, despite the clove notes. Lots of sweet apple juice, juicy nectarine, unripe cherry and cloves.

Luminous Coffee Roasters Honduras Juan José Ventura Fuentes Finca La Lesquinada

Roasted on 04/24/22 I brewed this in a Kalita wave using notneutral filters with a Niche Zero grinder. My recipe is 28g coffee, 400g hot water not necessarily aiming for any particular time, but somewhere between four and five and half minutes. I try to do a 50g bloom in the first 45 seconds then three or four more pours. 45. I think there might have been something wrong with my sample or I tried it to soon, but it was incredibly ashy and had a weird funky smell. According to the tasting notes it is supposed to taste Floral, blackberry acidity, with a heavy mouthfeel and green apple. But I am ninety percent certain I did not receive the correct coffee or there was an issue with roasting. I don't think I have ever had a fermented coffee taste ashy.

Luminous Coffee Roasters Yemen Al Mashtal al Burhani Haraaz Natural

Roasted on 04/24/22 I brewed this in a Kalita wave using notneutral filters with a Niche Zero grinder. My recipe is 28g coffee, 400g hot water not necessarily aiming for any particular time, but somewhere between four and five and half minutes. I try to do a 50g bloom in the first 45 seconds then three or four more pours. 39. It was ok for a Yemen coffee, I still believe that Yemen coffees are overhyped and not worth anything near what they are being sold for. Very woody, like smoked cedar, some fleeting cranberry, mild lemon soda and cocoa nibs.
