Intelligentsia Coffee Roasters Fruit Bat

Roasted 08/30/21 I brewed this in a Kalita wave using notneutral filters with a Niche Zero grinder. My recipe is 28g coffee, 400g hot water not necessarily aiming for any particular time, but somewhere between four and five and half minutes. I try to do a 50g bloom in the first 45 seconds then three or four more pours. 45. I love Intelligentsia's seasonal blends so much more than their Black Cat and Black Cat Analog. Lots of acidity, mostly sweet plum, milk chocolate, slightly floral and silky.

Intelligentsia Sapsucker Espresso

Roasted on 12/14/20 I brewed this in a Kalita wave using notneutral filters with a Baratza Encore grinder. My recipe is 28g coffee, 400g hot water not necessarily aiming for any particular time, but somewhere between four and five and half minutes. I try to do a 50g bloom in the first 45 seconds then three or four more pours. 13. Very bright, some acidity, but mostly darkish pomegranate molasses, cranberry and sweetness in the front. I liked this, but think I would like it better as an espresso.

Intelligentsia Coffee Roasters Otoño Blend

Roasted on 12/14/20 I brewed this in a Kalita wave using notneutral filters with a Baratza Encore grinder. My recipe is 28g coffee, 400g hot water not necessarily aiming for any particular time, but somewhere between four and five and half minutes. I try to do a 50g bloom in the first 45 seconds then three or four more pours. 10-12. I couldn't quite decide between 10 & 12, 10 was not as clean tasting as 12, but 12 wasn't as developed. I had lots of plum notes, some fleeting tamarind tartness and some red grape-like sweetness. I enjoyed this coffee, but I think I need to adjust my recipe slightly to get a better cup.

No preinfusion today. I guess I should explain my absence, I want to quit my job desperately and needed time for myself. Nothing has changed I feel trapped and suffocated here. Roasted on 06/21 I brewed this in a Kalita wave using notneutral filters with a Ditting KR1203 grinder. My recipe is 28g coffee, 400g hot water not necessarily aiming for any particular time, but somewhere between four and five and half minutes. I try to do a 50g bloom in the first 45 seconds then three or four more pours. 6.125. I forgot to put my grind setting last time. It taste better than last time, but not by much. Lots of nectarine notes, some astringent overburdened black tea and a little honey sweetness throughout. Not a fan of this still.

Counter Culture Big Trouble Espresso: Roasted on 03/17/20 18.4g in 20 seconds 30-36g out Dark and boring. Might hold up pretty well in q latte. Someone told me this was the lightest espresso they have ever had yesterday. Intelligentsia Honey Badger Espresso: Roasted on 03/20/20 18.8g in 25 seconds 24g out It's never been sweeter, however the sweetness is pretty much the primary characteristics now. Equator Decaf Blend Espresso: Roasted on 03/05/20 15.2g in 16 seconds 30g out

The 6am Safeway run is killing me. Counter Culture Big Trouble Espresso: Roasted on 03/17/20 18.0g in 23 seconds 30g out Much darker and less sweet than I ever had. Pretty much still only nutty. Intelligentsia Honey Badger Espresso: Roasted on 03/20/20 19.0g in 23 seconds 24-26g out I see how people could not lighter lighter brighter coffees with how I dialed in today. Very bright and tart, some sweetness at the end and a little too thin. Very sharp, mostly citrus notes throughout some ripe plum at the end. Equator Decaf Blend Espresso: Roasted on 03/05/20 15.0g in 15 seconds 30g out

I saw a lot of people I haven't in a while yesterday and decided at least temporarily to stay on. Counter Culture Big Trouble Espresso: Roasted on 03/17/20 19g in 23 seconds 30g out Darker than before, but still pretty boring. I might continue trying to updose as it still is pretty balanced and mostly nutty. I don't know if I want to try a 20g shot though. Intelligentsia Honey Badger Espresso: Roasted on 03/20/20 19.2g in 23 seconds 24-26g out Less tart, more sweet and less clean tasting. It still is mostly stone fruit. I tried using a larger dose, but couldn't get a good shot. Equator Decaf Blend Espresso: Roasted on 03/05/20 15.2g in 16 seconds 30g out

Worst part of today is paying rent and having the uncertainty of whether or not I'll be able to next month. Counter Culture Big Trouble Espresso: Roasted on 03/17/20 18.0g in 20 seconds 30g out I might try slowing this down tomorrow, I am not the biggest fan of Big Trouble as an espresso. I have it fairly light, but it is extremely well balanced and I can only taste but notes. Intelligentsia Honey Badger Espresso: Roasted on 03/20/20 18.6g in 24 seconds 24-27g out Much tarter and brighter than before, however the flavors are less distinct, mostly stone fruit. Equator Decaf Blend Espresso: Roasted on 03/05/20 15.2g in 16 seconds 30g out

Due to issues outside of my control I have decided to reevaluate whether or not I want to work in my current place anymore everyday. I have reached my limit and have no desire to interact with the majority of my coworkers. If I was not afraid of using my entire savings I'd quit, however I would not be eligible to unemployment. Tectonic Drift  Blend Espresso: Roasted on 03/15/20 18.0g in 20 seconds 30g out I have so little espresso in the hopper that I should honestly dial in a new one, but I just don't feel like doing so. Tectonic taste mediocre like it always does. Intelligentsia Honey Badger Espresso: Roasted on 03/20/20 18.7g in 23 seconds 24-28g out Just bright and tart. Plenty of citrus and plum notes, I have come to the conclusion that this espresso is just mediocre, it's neither complex and interesting or orthodox. Perhaps I can try more with it, but I am not sure. Equator Decaf Blend Espresso: Roasted on 03/05/20

Tectonic Drift Blend Espresso: Roasted on 03/15/20 18.5g in 26 seconds 28-30g out Mostly chocolate, but more stone fruit than before and a molasses like finish. I much prefer Shift blend to drift. While this isn't that dark, it is darker and less crisp. Intelligentsia Honey Badger Espresso: Roasted on 03/20/20 18.6g in 23 seconds 30g out According to my contact at Intelligentsia I should be pulling a much longer and slower shot, but I have only been able to get tart boring flavors when doing so. I'll think I'll try this as a ristretto next time I dial in.  Lots of plum notes, mostly tart, some sweetness and faint orange at the end. Equator Decaf Blend Espresso: Roasted on 03/05/20 15.1g in 15 seconds 30g out
